A participant brings lived experience, interests, ambitions and strengths.

A family brings knowledge and understanding.

A support worker brings trust and consistency.

An allied health professional brings expertise.

A friend brings connection.

A community brings opportunity.

Each contribution matters.

When those strengths come together, they create greater possibilities for individuals and communities.

RQ PHILOSOPHY

Heart. Mind. Purpose.

Our name reflects our belief that meaningful support brings together emotional intelligence, intellectual intelligence and purpose.

EQ + IQ + SQ = RQ

It's about seeing the whole person and building meaningful, lasting connections.

Connections for Independence™.

Connections for Independence™ creates opportunities for people with disability to build confidence, friendships, skills and independence through active participation in their community.

This philosophy is informed by the belief that people build their own future better than anyone else. That happens when they are listened to, respected and surrounded by complementary skills, opportunities and relationships.

Building Individual Capacity: A Community Ecosystem Approach

Lasting independence is not achieved by directing people towards predetermined solutions.

It happens through intentionally fostering environments where people can discover their strengths, talents and aspirations, make informed choices, and contribute in ways that are meaningful to them.

As Director John Grohovaz explains:

"We know that communities are strengthened when every person can participate. That's why we don't support outdated notions of capacity building as attending a series of support and training programs. Rather, we see people flourish when they belong to communities that recognise their contribution, value their lived experience and remove barriers to participation."

The Challenge

Many people with disability continue to experience social isolation, limited opportunities for meaningful participation, and barriers to developing confidence, self-advocacy and independence.

While support services are essential, capacity building is often delivered as a series of disconnected programs that focus on developing skills in isolation from everyday community life.

Families and carers also frequently lack the information, peer support and practical resources needed to support informed decision-making and increasing independence.

The result is that capability develops more slowly, opportunities remain limited, and communities often miss the contribution people with disability are ready to make.

Our Response

RQ Living's mission is to facilitate meaningful change. We lead with heart, mind and purpose to build meaningful, lasting connections. It is in this context that Connections for Independence™ was born.

Building on this philosophy, Community Connections for Independence™ is a five-year capacity building initiative that creates opportunities for people with disability, families and carers to build confidence, independence and self-determination through authentic participation in community life.

Rather than treating capacity building as a classroom activity, the initiative creates environments where people develop capability through lived experience, meaningful relationships and practical contribution.

It is an operating model that places sustainable community development at the nexus of human capability, community capability and economic participation.

The Community Ecosystem Organisation™

The Community Ecosystem Organisation™ recognises that lasting independence is achieved when people, communities and opportunities develop together.

Our philosophy is built on three foundational principles.

Every person can grow.

Everyone has strengths and talents, even if they have not yet discovered them.

Communities are stronger when everyone belongs.

Everyone has something valuable to contribute.

Economic participation is fundamental to independence.

Meaningful participation in education, volunteering, enterprise and employment creates pathways to greater independence while strengthening communities.

Creating Stronger Communities

Connections for Independence™ is more than a capacity building initiative. It is a long-term commitment to creating stronger individuals, stronger communities and greater opportunities for everyone.

By bringing together human capability, community capability and economic participation, we are helping build communities where people do not simply receive support—they belong, contribute and thrive.
